MANAGING HUMAN USE IN SENSITIVE PLACES

The community of Canmore has struggled with addressing the issue of human use in wildlife corridors and habitat patches for close to two decades. In 2015 with the help of numerous stakeholders, the Human Use Management Review came up with a series of recommendations to address the ongoing issues of human use and educate the community on why this work is important.

SUMMER 2016 PROJECTS

SOUTH CANMORE HABITAT PATCH
Work is proceeding in the South Canmore wildlife habitat patch to reduce the number of redundant trails through the area, making the area more functional for wildlife. Earlier this spring hazard trees were cleared and in July trail signs will be installed to improve wayfinding. Following that, unnecessary trails will be decommissioned with the help of the Friends of Kananaskis Country and Canmore Trails Alliance. This important work will benefit people who use these trails, but also the wildlife who share the valley with us.
